Why the Arabs invest in America?

Recently, Abu Dhabi Investment Council (ADIC) acquired the Chrysler Building in New York, USA, for approximately $800 million.
The 77-storey skyscraper at 405 Lexington Avenue, designed by William Van Alen, was completed in 1930 on behalf of then-owner Chrysler and its founder Walter Chrysler. At 319 metres, the Chrysler Building was the world’s tallest skyscraper before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building a year later.
I don’t know why the Arabs invest so much in America? I am sure if they show some interest, we have many landmarks to sell to our brotherly Islamic countries.

Their investment advisors are most likely from that part of the world.

Why do Pakistanis invest heavily in Dubai? Because they know that their money is not safe in Pakistan. But when the Stock market will collapse, and share prices crash, investors from all over the world will rush in to buy shares on the Karachi Stock Exchange. This is what happens all over the world, money flows everywhere it is likely to expand. Right now there is a recession in the U.S. property market, property prices are low, so Arabs are investing there. Of course, the rich Arabs also know that one day they may have to leave their countries in a hurry, so having property in the U.S. or Europe can at least ensure their survival in bad times.

what brotherly relations? Should Arabs invest in Pakistan? Should Arabs invest in a country which is 50% sure that it will break up into 4 different countries including Sindhistan, Punjabistan, Balochistan and Pakhtonistan? Please, dont despise others (specifically Arab petro-dollars) if we are not like them. It us (pakistanis) who did it to ourselves.

For the sake of argument, Arabs are investing in Sudan which is in civil war. Petro-dollars were used to fight Soviet Union and they may again be used to rebuild Afghanistan, and …. Pakistan.

@ Kashif Aziz: Arabs are investing in Sudan because Sudan deserves it. Are Arabs investing in India? If I remember correctly, Pakistan got independence one day before India and it is centuries behind in economy.
July 12th, 2008 15:23 GMT
Sudan deserves it and Pakistan don’t? What’s the logic behind this?
As for Arab investment in India and vice versa, it is really happening. Indians are prefered in UAE over Pakistanis and they have got their hands into everything. For arab investment in India, check this and this.

Why do Arabs invest in USA and not in Pakistan? It is very simple and everyone knows the answer. Can you compare USA with Pakistan? Even then, Arabs have invested in Pakistan. What about Pakistan Telecommunication and Al Falah Bank and some of the residential projects which are going to start in Karachi?
It is always wise to look at yourself before criticising others. What are the overall conditions of law and order in Pakistan? What about availability and prices of basic commodities and gas / petrol? Pakistan has no less resources than any other country in the world but these are for few people only who hold the reins. No one even thinks about the ordinary man that how will he survive or even will he survive or not.
The Arabs have used their resources for the betterment of their people; Pakistani rulers cannot even think of that achievements like theirs.

@Oceansmir: We have seen the investment in PTCL, KESC, Wateen/Warid and as you have mentioned, Bank Al Falah. Got your point, no need to submit it thrice.

Anyhow liked your blog and comments and it is right that Indians are prefered in the UAE over Pakistanis. But is it not the time to unite and stand on our own feet instead of borrowing support from others?
July 14th, 2008 13:02 GMT
Sure we have to stand on our own feet but the issue is that our leaders aren’t allowing this.
