Who is behind target killings in Karachi?

karachi target killings

It is sad to watch the largest city of Pakistan, one that generates the largest chunk of revenue and provide jobs and shelter to Pakistanis from every nook and corner (and even across the borders) of the country, entangled in a bloody mess called “target killings”.

Before getting any further, lets first define what is a “target killing”. Generally, it is perceived that when someone is assassinated due to his/her affiliation with any political, religious, ethnic or other group, the killing is said to be targeted.

If this definition is taken as valid, it depicts a nerve chilling scenario where the society has lost its cool and where individuals, and groups, believe that killing someone is the solution of a problem, or is the only way to make a point.

Karachi, to a keen observer who can see through the crap spread by politicians and media alike, is a jungle full of deadly predators. There are swamps of drug-pushers and arms-dealers, dense bushes full of thugs and street criminals and schools of piranhas representing mafias, political, ethnic and religious terrorists of all sorts.

Karachities are forced to live amongst all this chaos and mayhem, while those responsible for public safety have scores of armed vehicles escorting their movement across the city. The Law Enforcing Authorities (LEAs) including the Police and Rangers are nothing more than silent spectators in the face of killings and arson. The “elected representatives” feel no shame or humiliation when people of their constituency die in cold blood. The political parties, claiming support of masses, do nothing but blame all and sundry. The opposition is silent, so is the Judiciary. The preachers of Islam, the civil society, the intelligentsia, no one is doing anything while Karachi bleeds daily, and dies a slow and painful death.

MQM blames ANP for target killings, ANP accuses MQM for lying, while Rehman Malik says a third element is involved.

These “target killings” are not just limited to MQM and ANP. Almost every political, and otherwise, group in Karachi has lost, or claim of losing, workers and “supporters” to target killings. It seems that either these groups have got into a death race of some sort, killing each other off, or there is some other element active in Karachi, stealthily killing members of rival groups so that the remaining ones can tear each other apart, leaving the ground for the one behind scenes.

From another perspective, some say that this is a war to occupy as much land as possible, with MQM delving into Pushtoon, Baloch and Punjabi dominant areas, and vice versa.

How long these target killings would haunt Karachities? No one has the answer, for sure.

it is bad luck to see the government helplessly to not held the target killing in the big city in Karachi. The government is not a little serious to held the criminals and let them free to do any activity including killing the innocent people. It has been observed that the forces feel hesitation to control the illegal mob and let them free to set ablaze the public property and it seems that the government is a big partner of them. If the government showed honesty and order the forces to control at all then the result will spontaneously come to clear and no one courage to do again. It shameful for Raman Malik and its allies to only defeat the people and the situation is becoming more worse day after day. Thank all reader

1- It is strange that these incidents took place when President is visiting Karachi. 2- I can observe various party flags throughout the city these days to show their power & presence in that area. 3-CCPO Karachi is doing nothing…….Y? should have shaved his mustache after such failure…….

Do hell with all the parties whether MQM, ANP or PPP, people want nothing but PEACE in Karachi.

Pashtuns have a very very deep lying thinking that they are supermost. They must snatch by force whatever they want from whomsoever. Zabardast khan ( great man of force) , topak zama qanun (meaning gun is my law) etc are the common name of thier films representing this very thought. They must be brought down in karachi and sent back to pakhtunkhwa if peace must be prevailed in karachi. I am not muhajir but honestly belive that muhairs have great hearts for non muhajirs

The criminals groups, like drug mafia, arm dealers and sex traders are there in all big cities across the world. However the crops of ethnic, religious and political mafias are indicative of the dogmatic, prejudicious and biases indoctrination. The proliferation of this malady depends on the competency and effectiveness of the city and provincial administration.

Karachi has been enduring frequent violence events for the last couple years. During this period the death toll has reached in hundreds. The city is home to about 18 million people and serves as business hub of the country. Political killings have recently been escalated. Members of the ruling alliance of three parties are being shot dead on regular basis. A few weeks ago, the mafia made their presence felt once again when they killed a political figure Raza Haider, senior leader of the city’s dominant political party, along with two guards. After this sad incident , government claimed to bring the cold-blooded culprits to law. This incident triggered the chaos and violence deteriorating the law and order situation throughout the city. Outbreak of violence following the deadly attack resulted in deaths of several innocent people.

After tragedies the terror prevails and the businesses remain closed for many days. The closure of businesses and shops means a substantial loss to the economy of the country. In a situation like this daily wagers, belonging to the lower class, will not have money to buy food to feed their families. These incidents mount heavy deficit to the budget targets. The economy can not grow or even function normal when there is an entire day without business in the financial hub.

We all know who runs Karachi. Looking at past, it becomes obvious that Karachi gets captured by chaos and terror after every tragedy . The reason for this mishappening is lack of patience. It is the responsibility of the dominant party to guide people prudently and change their mind-set to avoid violence after tragedies occur. It must urge the people to have patience until the full disclosure. We see terror attacks in Punjab very oftenly but they look better than karachiites when it comes to cope with such situations . Because of the alliance with ANP and MQM, federal government seems to be paralyzed. It has failed to protect the people of the city. It should realize the sensitivity of the issue and must address it in a proper and effective manner before it is too late.
