Unfortunately most Pakistani Muslims think animal sacrifice is compulsory, although it is not one of the pillars of Islam. But we go on indulging in this ritual, rather than spending our money in helping the poor. I know a man who has bought sixty cows this year (each one a prized cow, costing seven lakh rupees). The street in which his house is located is closed for traffic because of so many animals in it. He does this because he is very, very rich and he wants to make sure that everyone knows this. People like him are the biggest contributors to inflation, and because of this excessive and unnecessary spending, the poor have to suffer.

People buying expensive animals is good IMHO, as the people SELLING them are not (probably) millionaires, so what's wrong in money changing hands from the extremely rich to the extremely poor, even if the price itself is outrageous?
