When it comes to AdSense, Pakistan Bloggers Are Handicapped
Bloggers in Pakistan are mostly shy to have AdSense (and other ads) on their blogs. As per my observation less that three percent are having ad sense on their blogs. Scarcity of related ads, smaller users’ base, limited online access, lack of savvy blogging techniques, difficulties in monitory transactions and online culture are some reasons that Pakistan still has not emerged as a market for Google AdWords program and local bloggers don’t have AdSense. Those who still do not know; “Google AdSense allows webmasters (blogger) to dynamically serve content relevant advertisements on web pages. If the visitor clicks one of the AdSense ads served to the site, the site owner is credited for the clicks. Google’s AdSense program allows approved sites to dynamically serve Google’s pay-per-click AdWord results.” {Bloggers} need only to insert a Google generated java script into the template. Google’s spider parses the Ad Serving site and serves ads that relate to the website’s content. Google uses a combination of keyword matching and context analysis to determine what ads should be served. The java script calls the ad from Google and will ensure that ads are served each time a visitor goes to the page. Exceptions aside, those who have Ads by Gooooogle (mostly miss targeted and meant for other markets) running on their blogs sure need to know and understand a few things before they can make their first 100 dollars. This may improve when more advertisers sign up for AdWords. That has not started happening yet though.
Blogger Buzz has this post about Get(ting) rich quick(er), “We’ve just made it a lot easier for Blogger users to make money using their blogs. Our new integration with AdSense lets you signup from within Blogger. And we’ve added a tool for inserting the ads in your blog (so you don’t have to mess around with the HTML). There’s even built-in options that will analyze the colors on your blog and choose a recommended color scheme. Check out the mad science, why don’cha.” It is fun to see my meter move penny by penny but, alas, it is so slow. It is a lot easier than when this post was written.
Blog Ads Hit Rough Patches, an article about miss targeting of AdSense lead me to ProBlogger (Achieve here) and Jen Sense (Making Sense of Contextual Advertising) – two very rich resources for those who are running Google Ads on their Blogs (and sites). Every thing about AdSense and a lot of practical tips are there for monetizing blogs and maximizing revenue. Nach Maravilla’s “8 Tips For Maximizing Contextual Advertising Revenues” is another good article on the subject.

Nice post. Although, I would not term it as handicap, rather it’s more attributed towards lack of knowledge and efforts. Most of the bloggers in Pakistan are either blogging as hobby or they are casual bloggers posting once in a while. There are few serious bloggers around who spent time on monetizing their blogs.
Contrary to common belief, earning online is not a piece of cake. Like any physical business it require investment in terms of time and resources. Traffic is life and blood of a web site and one has to work hard on the content, presentation and promotion to generate traffic which may lead to revenue streams. Most of us start their web projects enthusiastically but dump the idea after getting no result in short time. I believe that persistence is the key.
While Pakistani bloggers may not fetch same advertisers and rates as their western or even indian counterparts, there is still good money to make, provided topic and content is selected with care.
