What did Chaudhry Shujaat really say to Musharraf?
I was astounded to read that the defeated chief of the Q-League, Chaudhry Shujaat met Musharraf and told him that his party will vote against repealing of Article 58(b), which gives power to the president to dissolve the assemblies. I know that Musharraf has every right to meet anyone he wants, but meeting someone like Shujaat must have taken a lot of courage. He should at least have thought what people would think of the president of the country (even if illegally elected) meeting someone who was defeated in both the two places he contested from. But then, Musharraf never did give a damn for what the people of Pakistan think. And I wonder how Musharraf was able to understand that Chaudhry Shujaat was offering him support in trying to retain the controversial powers given to him under the said article.
We know that there isn’t a single person in the whole wide world who can comprehend what comes out of Chaudhry Shujaat’s mouth, so how did Musharraf know what he was saying? What the defeated chief of PML-Q probably said was something like, “Rub dub hub mub lub chub atthawan bay”, from which it was concluded that he was not in favour of removing article 58(b) from the Constitution. But how can we be sure that that is what he said? Maybe he was referring to the fifty eight million acres of forest which he and his party men destroyed or intend to destroy while trying to complete the New Murree project. Or perhaps he said that if massive rigging had been allowed, his party would have got fifty eight percent of the seats. I don’t think we’ll ever know.
