This kind of situation is where politics strains its limits in democracies, because politicians have to please their majorities, and justice is hard to justify to people more prone to emotion than reason. I doubt that eight Muslims will hang because the politicians, who are of you and have to live among you, won’t be able to pull it off without inviting internal retaliation.

Sadly, some alleged Christian able to count to eight, somewhere, with an attitude and a score-sheet, may decide he needs to balance the numbers, and here we go again with more miserable crap, possibly against perfectly innocent Muslims somewhere. Then some angry Muslim will retaliate, and on and on and on. My sympathies for your politicians, assuming they really care about justice, but they brought it on themselves, collectively, by spending too much on limousines and not enough on education for the knot-head perpetrators. Ours are just as bad.

Religion is not to blame here–all religions teach forgiveness. The exact opposite–criminals, montebanks and opportunists, playing off our apparent differences, which, in the final analysis, aren’t very significant, are the culprits. We are all cut from the same cloth and basically function in the exact same manner, far more similar than different. Greed, egocentrism and ethnocentrism, xenophobia, impatience, laziness, fear, jealousy, faithlessness and the rest of the human weaknesses are to blame. Let’s add in the language barrier–a really BIG problem and the main contributor to all the rest of the problems–, which you smart cookies have whipped (I think we owe you a lot of appreciation, indeed, admiration, for that!)

Percussions and repercussions, thousands of years of it. Who started it? Cain and Able, maybe? More importantly, who will stop it? The iron hand of secular authority? All of us together.

I consider it the duty of us who know to enlighten the ones among us who do not. I tell many of my American friends about our conversations and they invariably sit up and pay attention, glad for some positive news. I’m thankful to you all for this nice bridge we’ve built. for too long in Pakistan, “blashphemy” charges have been used to target minorities groups –especially our Christian Pakistani brothers and sisters.

Such incidents have declined…which is why i am deeply hurt and SHOCKED by what happened.

The government had better not DARE allow this incident to go unpunished.

The killers should be brought to trial and face the families of their victims. Harshest penalty should be imposed (life sentence)
