Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

Unusual Politics of Pakistan

Isn’t it shocking to watch our very own ex- ministers being beaten up with shoes? They are enduring people’s wrath. Masses were still stunned at the beating of Arbab Rahim in the Sindh Assembly when he came there to sworn in but had to bear the thrashing of its companions over there, that news flashed that the same impertinent attitude has been shown towards Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi.

Isn’t it quite shameful to see such incidents on television all over the world? What kind of impression is Pakistan portraying in global politics? Such incidents are proving the fact that if the people abroad are claiming Pakistan to be one of the most dangerous places in the world, they are quite right. Just imagine for a moment, how it feels to you when the foreigners say that Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable places. There is no safety there. If you go there, you risk your life. Our patriotism is crushed when we hear such kind of statements.

No law here gives this much right to any citizen of Pakistan whether it be a lawyer or a general citizen to beat a person so brutally. But that is what happened with Sher Afgan Niazi and to our dismay; the spectator there who was witnessing this drama was none other than police. Yes, our very own police who are meant to maintain law and order in the country was the one who was watching it vanish from the site of the incident.

The manhandling meted out to Dr. Sher Afgan and Dr. Arbab Rahim is condemnable and cannot be justified.
