Their Rights?
Let’s rejoice as emergency has been lifted after everything is blissful once again in the beloved fatherland. Just five days ago, before the nullification of emergency rule, on Dec 10th, the world’s most useless organization the ‘United Nations’ celebrated the anniversary of the United Nations’ adoption in 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Even after the removal of emergency in Pakistan, though the basic rights of the people of this country are now supposed to be also in effect, in actual the Pakistanis seems as far as ever from the emergency’s departure of “equal and inalienable rights” for everyone everywhere, from Khyber to Karachi to Kohat to Quetta to Karakoram.
A vivid example of the void of emergency example is the still ongoing incarceration of Aitezaz Ahsan, and other lawyers. They really deserve a salute for their stand. In these testing times, when everyone is dying to be sold, they have taken a stand and have stood firm by it. In the face of stiff and cruel winds, they are not budging, and they are the symbol of the will of the proud Pakistani nation.
Their names will surely be taken with great regard and love by the posterity.
In a free country, like Pakistan is, every citizen enjoys equal and inalienable rights. So when emergency is no longer there, then what is the matter that these great lawyers are still behind the bars? Perhaps they are the only one alive left in the country, or they don’t have any king or queen to back them up. But Pakistani nation owes them a lot, and it’s a monumental task for Pakistanis to treasure the sacrifices of these tigers.
