Supreme Court of Pakistan Disqualified Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. What Next?

Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif disqualified by Supreme Court of Pakistan Time has proved that the decision of Nawaz Sharif and PML (N) to contest in elections of February 18, 2008 was wrong. The Sharifs went along with Benazir Bhutto and PPP to gain some political advantages, thinking they would come up clean just like NROed PPP leaders. However, after demise of Benazir, Asif Ali Zardari took Big Brother Nawaz Sharif for a ride, while Shahbaz Sharif felt content with his lollypop of Punjab Chief Ministership. They never felt ashamed of their contradictory behaviour of leaving government at federal level but sticking to the Punjab governement.

The decision by the Supreme Court of Pakistan should not bring suprise to anyone. It was on the cards, and became prime factor of Nawaz Sharif’s sudden energetic speeches and critique of the government. Nawaz Sharif’s stance on Long March changed when it became evident that at least he will be disqualified by the Supreme Court.

The decision of Supreme Court will impact Shahbaz Sharif the most. He will eventually loose his Provincial Assembly seat from Bhakkar, along with his status of CM. This will lead PML (N) to decide who is going to replace Shahbaz Sharif as CM Punjab? Is it going to be Dost Mohammad Khosa? who took the position for a shorter period leading way to Shahbaz. Will it be somebody else? Or PML (N) going to quit from assembly and join Long March as a do-or-die attempt to de-throne Zardari government? The last option seems less likely and most extreme but PML (N) may go for it because Sharif brothers (or at least one of them) won’t like to sit outside of assemblies and miss the action.

Next few weeks are critical for political future of Punjab, and Pakistan.

Although Pakistan is facing a new challenge in political grounds and a resistance is being observed in different cities by the common people, but the resistance and protest should be non violent. We should not burn the properties of the common people or any national resources, as this would be an attempt to destroy our own home land. So we should behave like true Pakistanis. We should be Pakistan.

Zardari will remain as long as Karachi is with him. But now the MQM will want more for its cooperation.

Well… incase of Shahbaz Sharif, he may have been a part of all politics invloved out there. But, his performance in the past year as the Chief Minister has simply been inspiring. From minute to very important, from personal to large-scale, in many matters, he did extremely well. He is one man about whom I can safely say that “he tried to SERVE the nation.”. The steps he took as the Cheif Minister were very effective and even innovative. May God bless him!
