Standing On Our Own Feet

Tell you what, my lovely reader, I am more than sure that we Pakistanis can really shake the world. We can really rip apart the frozen seas, and we can really mellow the hardest ore. But for that we have got to…adopt a very dynamic approach, based on Islam, or in other words; learning, tolerance, enlightenment, and love.

We as a nation must adopt the approach of positive power. Only then we should be able to overcome the terrible schism menacing our society and be able to ensure a respectable place for ourselves in the international community. We don’t have to be a stooge of the West to do so. Malaysia has proved that if your own house is in order, you don’t have to be a lackey of the West to have a place in the world today. At the same time we should not precipitate a clash with the West and should learn from the wise policy of China that has concentrated on its own development during the last three decades and avoided confrontation and clash that could spell disaster for her.

In order to determine, what role Islam should play in the Pakistani society, an analysis of the Pakistan Movement that led to the independence of Muslims is very pertinent. As we retrospect, we find that the Pakistan Movement was initially launched to protect the economic, political and social right so f Muslims of the Subcontinent. Quaid-e-Azam was, for a long time, a consistent ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity. It was only when he realized that under a political system based on the pattern of Western democracies the economic, political and social rights of the Muslims could not be adequately safeguarded against a permanent Hindu majority that he started to move in a direction the led to the adoption of Pakistan Resolution in 1940.

Islam when it came to this world was a highly progressive value system and in fact one of the greatest reformations that the mankind ever experienced. Whether it be Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Astronomy, or Geography or Medicines or History the Muslims led the world in all walks of life.

We need to carry on the progressive approach of our forefathers to regain the lost glory. Enough misery has been seen by us, and we have taken enough dictation. Its time, we stand up and deliver.
