Soul
Every human being has been created with a soul. This soul has been created by Allah and the need Allah has kept for it is also that of Allah. Just like a body needs food the soul needs Allah. If a person goes without food he will feel hungry. His hunger will not decrease by driving, talking, walking, reading, staring at a wall etc. His pain will only go away with food.
Similarly the soul needs Allah. When a person is engaged in worship the soul gets enlightened and a person feels happy. In the state of depression the soul yells and screams for Allah. People try to numb the pain of depression with sin (t.v. music, etc) and the result is that the pain increases. Whoever tries to numb their pain with sin might as well try to get rid of hunger by reading, driving , talking etc.
If a person worships at certain times of the day (salat, zikr etc)and at other times indulges in sin he is like someone with a cold having medicine and ice-cream at the same time. Worship has to be free of sin.
