Shame on us and on Shakespeare
Shakespeare was a universal man, and his pondering are pertinent and fresh even now, and the circumstances cannot be best described well than what he says in Hamlet:
“To be, or not to be: — that is the question: —
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? — To die: — to sleep; —
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, — ’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. To die, — to sleep; —
To sleep! perchance to dream: — ay, there’s the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there’s the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.”
For General (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf and his cronies it is easy to think that withdrawing from the rule will open Pandora’s Box and let loose all the maladies of the world in the country. It’s natural for them to believe that if Army wouldn’t look after the political process, the country’s survival would be at stake. Its not unusual for them to use un-constitutional methods to secure the rule of law, and why are we idiots protests over the ban of media and the disposition of judges, when our rulers are doing it for the ‘larger interest’ of the nation.
Now they have arranged an election for us early next year, and they are bestowing us the a staged-democracy, but we the unthankful ones are talking about the sham care-taker setup and emergency and the biased election commission, instead of preparing once again to vote for PML-Quisling. Shame on us.
