There is a lot of debate in the web circles about the autonomous and liberated user experience. The new buzzword Web 2.0 has muddied the waters more. Yet again, many websites are empowering the users blindly without analyzing the intricacies.

Where there are so many advantages of user empowerment in regard of features and tools offered by any product, especially the software products, there are also many gaping and spine-chilling perils. For example, today’s favorite child YouTube has revolutionized the video publishing. It’s literally the climax of point and shoot and publish. There also are many sites like YouTube professing to make anyone wanting to be a director for nothing.

Where there have been really great home-made movies available on these sites, in which amateurs are doing great stuff, both for fun and for lesson, there also some scary videos in which amateurs are doing hair-raising stuff like performing surgeries, experimenting with dangerous things, showing risky tricks, uploading shockingly disgusting obnoxious material and much more.

User liberty isn’t something as license to do anything with the tool available. User contribution should be as seamless and painless as possible, but user control should be in the hands of user, instead the website administrators must exercise their control. Inmates shouldn’t be running the asylum.
