Remembering Pakistan Earthquake 2005
Two years ago people of Pakistan went through the turmoil, suffering and agony that rebonded them as a nation. The earthquake that struck on October 8, 2005 precisely at 08:50:38 AM in Kashmir and Northern Areas of Pakistan left thousands dead and millions homeless in its wake. During the months that followed, Pakistanis across the globe collaborated as single unit for relief and rehabilitation of earthquake victims. While there were some cases of corruption as few black sheep tried to take advantage of people’s misery, all in all Earthquake 2005 was an incident that revitalized the national spirit.
Remembering the earthquake in Pakistan, I recall the reaction on earthquake in Islamabad, the victims, local and foreign relief work, missing people, and the aftermath.
After two years, earthquake affected people are still waiting for proper accommodation. Most of them are living in tent-villages or prefabricated homes.
On second anniversary of the earthquake in Pakistan, it is required that we should not forget our fellow countrymen and help them as much as we can, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan.
