Reinstation of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry: The Minus One Theory

Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry Reinstated

Amidst the tall claims of ruling alliance of Pakistan, reinstation of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry as Chief Justice of Pakistan is still in mist. Although the newly formed government has established a committee to “look into” the issue, we all know that normally these committees suck taxpayers’ money and churn GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out).

As there is no clear course of action from the government, various conspiracy theories are in air, including the Minus One theory meaning all judges can be restored except Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry as his case has personal prejudice involved. It is rumored that Justice Chaudhry has been offered several options including governorship of Balochistan. However, his response is not clear yet.

Renowned lawyer Hamid Khan, who is part of Justice Iftikhar’s council as well as leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and Lawyers’ Movement has criticized the role of newly appointed Law Minister, Farooq H. Naik. Hamid Khan thinks that Mr. Naik along with another PPP minister is working against Justice Chaudhry. Mr. Naik was Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari’s lawyer, defending them in Pakistan and abroad during last 12 years.
