Ready to March

Pakistan’s history has been rife with the blunders and black days, but there are some days which are very painful. One of them came two years ago. On March 9, 2007, yet another dictator of Pakistan did a shameful thing. On March 9, 2007 General Musharraf made a fatal move against Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Though Pervez Musharraf meant to wipe out Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, but the CJP became the pride of Pakistan and reached to the zenith of greatness. The CJP was not only revered and applauded in Pakistan but he was also praised throughout the world, where people treasure supremacy of law and justice.

There is one good news now and there is a bad news. The good news is that Pervez Musharraf is no more and has been discarded with disgust to the dustbin of history, and the bad news is that the supposedly democratically elected president is following the footprints of bygone Musharraf and still judiciary is not free in Pakistan.

Pakistanis are ready for the long march, for supremacy of the Constitution, independence of the judiciary, rule of law. Pakistan is once again ready to face yet another tyrant. The presence of thousands of enthusiastic lawyers and members of civil society on the Constitution Avenue is enough to kill dictatorship and its ideologies.
