PPP’s Integrity
A new contention has started in the cadres of Pakistan People’s Party. As the initial grief has subsided and PPP’s high-ups are confronting the harsh realities of Pakistani politics, they are realizing how much touch it is to survive without their leader who never let them groom for the posts.
Though Benazir had all the leadership qualities along with some serious question marks, her one of biggest setback was that she never encouraged, tolerated and groomed a standby leadership in the party. The political dynasties system dictates this, and as a nation its our weakness that we love personalities instead of the system and institutes. We know that PML-N means Mian Nawaz Sharif, and we know that PPP means Bhutto. We know that PML-Q means Chaudharies, and Tehrik-e-Insaf means Imran Khan.
But now as there is no Bhutto in sight for the current PPP, and Asif Ali Zardari is at the helm of the affairs, who isn’t much a celebrated figure in Pakistan even for the diehard supporters of PPP, who never liked the marriage of their proud sister with the Zardari tribe. Zardari knew it already, and that is he appointed another Zardari for the post by changing his name, and tried to cash in on the sympathy and emotional vote. That apparently worked, but now as the young Bilawal Bhutto Zardari (how unnatural it sounds) has gone out from the scene for a long time, people are disturbed at the sight of Mr. 10 percent leading one of the main parties.
Now Asif Zardari is in Dubai trying to win the support of Americans and British which her late and recently assassinated wife enjoyed. He is also trying to convince the international diplomats that he can do for them what they hoped from his wife to do. He is trying to fill in the shoes of Benazir, which even the party workers and leaders aren’t willing to accept or approve. Makhdoom Amin Fahim, who is for now the candidate for Prime Minister from PPP, is also very much apprehensive of Asif, and lobbying hard for his ouster.
Things are hard and tough for the late BB’s PPP.
