Police of Terroristan
When Talat Hussain of Aaj TV asked a foreign journalist, who was covering the events in the wake of scrutiny of presidential candidate’s papers, he said that he was also threatened by the police, and he had only seen scenes like these in Myanmar, Nepal and Occupied Kashmir and now in Pakistan.
Yesterday it was a sheer example of mishandling of the whole affairs, as well as yet another example of “police-gurdy.” The way the policemen were beating the people outside election commission and Supreme Court, was so ruthless and merciless. Police were baton charging, tear-gassing, and beating the lawyers, media, and political members without any distinction and respite.
Hardly there were 250 lawyers present and the figure consisting of members of media teams including the national and international correspondents hardly reached to 30. There were very very few political workers, who managed to reach Constitution Avenue on 29th September. For these handfuls of people, thousands and thousands of people of forces were present and they were equipped with tear gas, batons, bullets and stones, which they were committed to apply upon the “miscreants” who were their exercising their inalienable fundamental rights.
I would again say that it was really horrible and blood-boiling to watch on channels the way police were beating the people. Wild and barbaric policemen were charging down on the lawyers and media and were crushing them remorselessly. It was so gloomy, shameful and alarming a scene. Prime minister and army of ministers were inside the building of Election Commission and people of Pakistan were being beaten outside the EC and SC by the police of Terroristan.
