People’s Poverty
It is an open and proven fact beyond doubt that economic prosperity and social justice are equally vital to a healthy and wealthy society. Food security, health and education are rightly deemed priorities for global poverty reduction. Yet, unless the distribution of wealth, for the urban and rural factions of the society is disseminated properly and justly, its impossible to alleviate poverty.
Society’s efforts, no matter how much hard, to create a better life for billions of disenfranchised people will falter and fail, if they are not targeted to benefit the basic needs of the population. In Pakistan, rulers are very happy that people now have cell phones. They boast with glee that now even a mason working on the roof, or a motor-mechanic under the car, or a hawker with his cart has a mobile phone. They boast it with pride that now the traffic is jammed on the roads, which is clear sign of progress and development and that the per capita income of the populace has increased.
That’s ridiculous and baseless. Authorities should come out of their luxurious shells and observe the ground realities for themselves. Public is even deprived of the basic things like food and clothes. People don’t have anything worthwhile to wear or anything edible to eat. Government must accept and carry on with concrete measures to fulfill its obligation to render food and clothes at affordable prices to the nation.
Government has no serious opposition right now from the political parties. They are useless, as we saw on 10th September. The real opposition of the government is this price hike and the apathy of local governments. Nation is gathering stones for the next elections. Why in the hell should we vote for anyone, and I repeat anyone, when we don’t have anything to eat and anything to wear. No one is there to control the prices, and there is virtually no check and balance. It’s time nation check this themselves.
