Peace in Afghanistan
Deaths, blasts, raids, and statements from Afghanistan have just become yet another news from some remote world for the rest of the world. War in Afghanistan is yet another elongated and confusing war for US-led forces. The came with the firm and sure-fire belief that due to the supremacy of their warfare and the ‘ignorance’ of Taliban, it would be just matter of days to conquer Afghanistan. Russia was also of this opinion, and still repent it.
Now, though, US is still hell bent on using power against Taliban, the Afghanistan government, by realizing the ground realities thinking in some other direction, and that’s a big deal. It’s really a big deal for Karzai to think different from US orders. Taliban are also showing some flexibility in this regard. Both Afghan regime and Taliban now want to sit on the table for negotiations. They both know that this war has no end, but a slow destruction for everyone. They also know that as this was alien culture for USSR, so it is for the US-led forces.
Now Taliban has shown their consent to talk with Afghan government, and they are saying that they have done this in the greater national interest. It’s a very huge change in their approach. It’s also a very nice thing to hear that they are also now showing some sense at the political front, and they have begun to realize that rigidity is not the solution for all the issues, and they have to be flexible atleast when it comes to their own nation.
Recently Hamid Karazi also has invited Talian for talks for the peaceful settlement. The Jirga which held in Kabul, some weeks ago also suggested the same thing. It’s a very relieving approach from both sides, and it’s good to see that Karazi administration have realized that they cannot really ignore Talibans, who represent more than 65 per cent of the Afghanistan.
Renowned Afghan leader and former prime minister Engineer Gulbadin Hikmatyar has also approved of such talks, and has shown his desire to be included in such talks. In the greater interest of Afghanistan and the region, it’s now the duty of Karzai regime to hold such a nation-wide conference and invite all the factions, and try to find a peaceful way for the country. Though US doesn’t approve such peaceful approach, Karzai has to shed his fear for the sake of nation.
