Pakistan Army ; Our Pride, Our Deride
It has become a norm, fashion, trend, vogue, vibe, and style; whatever you say to lash at Pakistan Army in the society. The stringent remarks can be heard anywhere in Pakistan, and people are openly talking against the role of army in the country. Repetitive Martial laws have made these remarks more bitter and full of anger.
There is no doubt that nobody in his right mind can defend or justify Martial law, or the active role of army in the politics. Democracy and Dictatorship cannot go hand in hand. Nominations of in-service and retired army officers in the national and private organizations are not something to be very much proud of. National will and aspirations cannot be manifested through army rule, and its totally insane to elect a in-service uniformed general as the president of Pakistan. This is also a flimsy excuse that army captures the rule upon the invitation of politicians, because why then army doesn’t go back to the barracks upon the request of those politicians?
There is also present very bitter criticism upon the role of army in operations of Balochistan, Waziristan, Lal Masjid, Swat and elsewhere. Army has also been criticized over its unnatural predilection towards the NATO and US forces. Domestic issues are also very much going out of control and people are very frustrated due to price hike, hoarding, unemployment, and grave situation of law and order.
There is also one other side of the coin, and yes it’s bright and very illuminating. Army as an institute is intact and as solid as ever. I, with full responsibility can assure you , that army is not really killing people in Waziristan, and the death toll is very much less, and its all been done to save our FATA area from the open NATO invasion. Army tries to not fire upon its own people directly, rather it fires upon the ditches and hills to avoid the people, and the reason hundreds of army personnel are being made hostages by local Talibans in that region is because that army is unwilling to kill its own brethren.
Army is the pride of nation, and always will remain so. The nexus of love between army and nation is higher than Himalayas, and few power-hungry generals cannot dampen or weaken it. Though again and again usurp-ness of power by the military junta has done considerable damage to the goodwill of the army in the country, yet it’s our guardian and we still adore it.
