Operation in FATA
The government of Pakistan People’s Party before starting any adventure in the tribal areas and in the NWFP region should learn a thing or two from the past. They need not to forget the gory streak of suicide bombings and bomb blasts not so long ago due to the operation.
Though the hawks and the agents of status quo in the current government are oozing out with the hawkish sentiments and they are hell bent on the adventurous operation in the region, the ANP government of that province knows the ground realities and they are that is why following the right modalities in the right fashion with the right people.
But it seems that the Federal Advisor on Interior Affairs, Rehman Malik wants to have its own way, and his aggressive tone is only making the matters worst.
Now the question is that why government wants to have a militant operation in the FATA. Why not a political solution? They have previously done operations in Balochistan, Swat and Islamabad, and still the blood is oozing from those operations. Pakistan cannot afford another such adventure, and this is the time that they learn from the mistakes of the past.

The situation in FATA & Swat is different from that in Balochistan. The militants in FATA do not want peace. They have decided to convert the whole world to their interpretation of Islam. They will go on burning girls’ schools, killing their opponents and training suicide bombers. The only way to deal with this situation is either an all-out war or to provide employment to the young people of the area. There are practically no factories there, and smuggling/growing poppy is their main activity.
