Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

Old and New Deals

Now Musharraf is trying to find an alternate of Benazir and that is why he is said to be in the sacred land of Saudi Arabia. To Musharraf’s dismay, he isn’t receiving much of a favorable response from Mian Nawaz Sharif, the leader of PML-N, who was re-exiled couple of months back after quite a drama. It is also reported that Javed Hashmi, another mainstream leader of PML-N, who is under arrest in Adyala Jail, Rawalpindi was tortured hard so that he could comply with the authorities to strike a deal with emergency regime, but Hashmi is a tough guy and he didn’t budge.

Now once again President Musharraf is trying to get the facilitation of Saudi government to convince and perhaps compel Mian Nawaz Sharif to become an alternate of Benazir. Its not that Benazir has refused to play as stooge of this regime, its only that Chaudhary Shujaat & co. has succeeded in convincing Musharraf that Benzair cannot be trusted and after getting the Kursi of Prime Minister, she would quickly start intriguing against the presidential palace, and the kings’ party, PML-Q.

Now for the third stage of his process of returning full democracy and civilian rule in the country, Musharraf is very reluctant to follow US’s direction. US, still wants Benazir-Musharraf duo at the helm of the affairs, but things are not boiling according to their temperature.

News is that Nawaz Sharif has also categorically refused even meeting with Pervez Musharraf, though he is still being pressurized and cornered from various sides. The deal for him includes the union of Q and N factions of PML, Shahbaz Sharif as Prime Minister, Pervez Elahi as CM of Punjab, termination of his exile, and then after one and half year, he could go for PM-ship for himself. But even a blind man can see through the curtains. It would be suicidal for Sharif Brothers if they accept this new deal.
