Non-Charismatic Local Leaders of PML-N
Spectacular failure of PML-N local leadership is more conpicuous in their futile efforts to justify it. The failure was so complete that, they even accepted it, defying the usual stubborness of Pakistani politicians.
On 10th September, when Nawaz Sharif was programmed to come back to Pakistan after the exile, media and people were expecting an unprecedented welcome. Nawaz Sharif was made to believe that no less than one million people would come out on the roads to recieve him, and he would be carried to Lahore from Islamabad with the mightiest procession ever. Nawaz Sharif was also rendered the impression, that government couldn’t dare to obstacle him in any way, after the clear verdict from the Supreme Court.
Poor Nawaz Sharif came and went, and there was nothing on the roads. Stance of PML-N local leaders is that public was stopped with the abuse of administrative power. It’s true that G.T. road was literally blocked from Lahore to Islamabad. All the entry points towards Islamabad from Punjab and NWFP were blocked with barricades, sand-filled containers and barbed wires. Police was every where, and there were numerous reports of its clashes with the supporters of PML-N.
But nothing serious happened. Only the PML-N workers came out. Public was nowhere. Public of Pindi/Islamabad and suburbs enjoyed an unexpected holiday at home, watching private channels. Public in front of television was rather disappointed when nothing thrilling and adventerous happened. Everyone at home was expecting others to participate in the protest. It’s a fact that right now silent majority tilts towards Nawaz Sharif.
But they dont really tilt towards the rest of the PML-N leadership. People don’t really like, rather abhor the so-called leadership of PML-N, and are not willing to heed their calls. People on 10th of September watched on TV, as how PML-N leadership gave their arrest to police, while sitting in their luxurious Pajeros and Cruisers, while making the signs of V and urging the workers to fight. Except of Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Javed Hashmi, Ahsan Iqbal, Khwaja Saad Rafiq, and Khawaja Asif, nobody in the PML-N has got any personal magnetism.
Rest of the PML-N just consists of same characters as there are in other parties. Rest of PML-N just consists of Chaudhries, Khans, Tawanas, Wattoos, Chattaas, Jatoiis, and other wadera shahi. People are not really fond of these characters anymore. If Nawaz Sharif really wants to win the heart of people, he needs to promote some dynamic, young, loyal, and charismatic leaders in his party.
