Mumbai Under Terrorist Attack
Mumbai, India’s financial capital, came under terrorist attack late Wednesday night as seven near-simultaneous firings and explosions rocked areas in the vicinity of luxury hotels in South Mumbai, leaving at least 80 persons dead and many injured.
According to media reports:
- Shots were fired and a grenade thrown at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal (CST) railway station killing many persons.
- Several landmark buildings in the Colaba-Nariman Point area, including the Taj hotel, Oberoi hotel, and other tourist attractions and pubs like Leopold’s were attacked. The top floor of Oberoi was said to be on fire amid reports of blasts in the area and blood-smeared bodies were being brought out of the Taj lobby.
- Firing and blasts were also reported from Mazgaon, the Metro Junction, Crawford Market and Colaba. There were reports of a blast in a taxi on the Western Express Highway, near Vile Parle, but there was no confirmation.
- The firing and bombing apparently started close to the Gateway of India. The gunbattle then moved on towards CST and raged on for over 45 minutes from 10 pm, sending commuters running out of the station.
- The assailants also fired into the crowd at CST and people on the trains and then ran out of the station themselves and into neighbouring buildings, including Cama Hospital, after being challenged by cops.
- Sajjad Karim, A British Euro-MP, is also caught in the attack at Hotel Taj.

It is really really sad to watch all this chaos and mayhem happening in Mumbai. My heartfelt sympathies to families of those who have lost their lives in these attacks. Terrorism should be condemned everywhere and instead of jumping to conclusions now and starting a blame game we have to keep our heads clear and work together to take real culprits to account.

Terrorism must be eradicated and snubbed. its a crime against humanity where religion, color or creed comes later. We in Pakistan are sad for loss of inocent lives of people in India due to this madness.

despite my recent anti-india rhetoric (mostly against their army and their BJP nationalists) — i must say i am deeply saddened and affected by this terrorist attack
this is sick and un-acceptable. They killed innocent civilians!!!! How can anyone justify what is going on?
What is worrying is that they were indian Muslims. This does not help our fight to promote Islam as the true religion of peace.
I am out-raged. That is all i can say. I wish peace and condolences to those who lost loved ones, and to the injured.
May sanity prevail

I still do not understand how these psychos can actually be considered in anyway Muslim…
It is highly unfortunate that such people are associated with Islam because it really does give the entire religion a bad reputation.
But this is a PERFECT reason why it is important to be open and accept all religions….if they teach nothing else, they teach this, in it’s most perfect fashion….it is their extremist beliefs that drive them to want to kill, for ultimately they feel that Islam is the only way….
Don’t you see? We must all embrace each other…Indians, Pakistanis, everyone…we must embrace and accept one another.

I am not in favour of terror but I am not in favour of injustices as well. What embaracing is going on in India for muslims? shame shame shame! what embracing are they excercisng with Pakistani bhai by severing our water for that they have no right to? shame shame shame… They have a history of deception. Now by luck they gotta a chance to squeeze us more since this bloody world is scared of Muslims and starts kiiling them everywhere…. Please give me one exmple where muslims have “invaded” anyone else land? This is end of times my friend, this is tyranny to superlative, this is evil at its best, this is the time annoucing arrval of DAJJAL.

Hi - thanks for your link to my blog post about Twitter’s Mumbai coverage. I’ve now followed up that post with another in which I propose some ways of making Twitter more useful for the specific circumstances around ‘live’, developing events like the Mumbai terror assault. What a tragic and hideous even it has been - our hearts go out to all those who have lost friends, relatives and loved ones.

Muslims alone are not terrorists. There are Hindu terrorists like Lt. Col. Purohit (who was involved in the Samjhauta Express and Malegaon bomb blasts) or Tamil Tigers whose suicide bombers killed Rajiv Gandhi. Those who blame Islam apparently don’t know that even in the Second World War, Japanese suicide bombers routinely crashed their planes into American ships.
