Massive Power Failure, Rain Hit Karachi
Karachi was massively hit by power failure and downpour on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. The power crisis started from Monday evening when KESC went to the dogs. 80% of Karachi was without electricity for more than 14 hours. Situation got worse when seasons’ first downpour started on Tuesday and KESC transmission lines got tripped, one by one.

After the downpour, massive gridlock occurred at Korangi Crossing, Shara-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Burnes Road, Lasbella, M.A. Jinnah Road, Numaish Roundabout, Empress Market, University Road, Rashid Minhas Road, SITE Roundabout, KDA Roundabout, and Nagan Chowrangi. Most jams were at traffic signals, which were not working due to electricity outage.

To date, electricity issue is still not fully resolved and most areas are going through 4-6 hours load shedding.
