Mass Arrests in the wake of Emergency
After the imposition of emergency and PCO, police has started arresting political leaders, workers, lawyers, and civil society members from all over the country. Police is also raiding the houses of people and there are reports that Police is torturing women and children during the failed raids.
Rangers have been deployed at the house of Justice Khalil Ramday in Lahore, who hasn’t taken oath as per PCO. Those who have been arrested include Imran Khan, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Javed Hashmi, Chaudhary Aitezaz Ahsan, Munir A. Malik, Tariq Mahmood and thousands of others. Disgustingly enough, nobody from Benazir’s People’s Party was arrested, and they are still enjoying the deal.
Though due to the blockade of private channels in Pakistan, Pakistanis in the country are unable to get full information about what’s happening in the country, they are in touch as a whole with the affairs through Dish channels, and through Internet and Telephone. In todays Information Age, its impossible for any government (Ask from Myanmar government) to throw an iron curtain over a whole country.
Benazir has returned from Dubai to seal the deal off. She is here to wipeout the shit before it hits the fan. She is in constant touch with the Tariq Aziz, a close aide of President Musharraf, who played a central role in striking the first dheel and then deal with her.
The thing is that except of shunning of private channels there is no change whatsoever, and one wonders at what elixir it would render. Let’s see that will the magic wand of emergency be potent enough to stop suicidal attacks, and will it be strong enough to curb the price hike, and will it be solid enough to solve the social issues like health, employment, poverty, housing and law/order situation?
