Learning Sophistication
Developers don’t make things perfect the first time, they figure out what failed last time. Many of the great inventors of the past viewed failure as the steps toward greatness. Many of the billionaires have had colossal failures along the way–but they learned. Nobody just “lucks” into it.
I don’t know if it counts as radical, but I would say that the one’s circle of achievement is always greater than the failures he encountered. And if we think carefully about how what we are designing fits into the larger collection of the one’s failures and goals, we can get closer to that rare combination of power and ease of use that inspires the passion and will to move ahead.
As a developer who maximized his experience and horizon by asking question about the failures he encountered, he is dead-sure to not only find the root cause of debacle but also to not to repeat it in future, hence increasing productivity and sophistication. A savvy developer will built a product or service that, though too deep and complex initially, will allow for the future growth as the develepor becomes more sophisticated.
And ofcourse, in order to find help in failures, depending on our learning preferences, of course, we should remember to turn to a colleague, a friend, or an online community, sometimes even before we turn to the manual or a for-pay course.
