Lament in FATA
Security forces on Wednesday continued pounding base camps of suspected militants in Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency for the second day, demolishing houses and Hujras of several tribal chieftains with explosives, besides rounding up a number of suspects. The political authorities claimed to have arrested 122 suspects, including 116 foreigners, during the operation.
The truth is that the operation has been launched to provide protection to the supply line for NATO troops. This is not in the interest of the nation, but aimed at appeasing the US. Our own people, women and children are being killed to protect US interests. The people of FATA and elsewhere lament that the government could not implement the unanimous resolution of the Parliament despite lapse of 52 days.
All the political forces and general public had welcomed the resolution, but its non-implementation caused disappointment among the people. It shows that Parliament is not supreme and everything is done on the dictation given by Richard Boucher and Michael Mullen. The popularity and credibility of the government has sunk to a new low.
On the other side, terrorists are having their own way. A Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) exchange was partially damaged when a powerful bomb went off Wednesday in the highly fortified military zone in Wana, South Waziristan, and missed a military convoy.
