Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry Restored, Again

Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry

Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, the disposed Chief Justice of Pakistan, has been restored once again. Previously he was reinstated on July 20, 2007 after which Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency on November 02, 2007, sending the judiciary to home that did not take oath on PCO.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani made the announcement of Justice Chaudhry’s restoration in wee hours of Monday morning, March 16th, 2009, hours before Long March was to be started for Islamabad.

This is another great day in history of Pakistan, and we don’t have too many of them. Kudos to all stake holders in this movement of freedom of judiciary, including Laywers, Political parties, Civil Society, Media and, last but not least, the People of Pakistan.

A word of caution; It is not ended yet. Musharraf’s residue is still in power and the corrupted elements inducted in judiciary have to be ousted, sooner than later.

Movement for Justice should continue.
