Ivory Coast Halves Government Pay To Cut Fuel Prices
People started agitating on this with youth burning barricades on streets of Abidjan, the capital, and housewives marching on the roads, banging pots and pans. A week-long strike was called by public transport workers, which forces public to walk for their work and errands.
The continuous agitation forced government to take serious measures and ultimately the government of Prime Minister Guillaume Soro decided to cut salaries of its ministers into half to pay for a reduction in the price of fuel. Also, the managers of state-owned companies would also have their pay cut in half, to pay for a 10% cut in fuel prices. Overseas trips by government members are also be reduced to a “bare minimum”
BBC quoted the Prime Minister: “Having heard the people’s cry from the heart, the government has decided to cut the price of fuel“.
This is in stark contrast with Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where reduction in petroleum prices are not transferred to public, ministers are demanding more compensation (rather than reducing it), favored personalities are hired on lavish salaries and corrupts get NRO’d.

Our govt will dbl the pay and blame it on previous govt about the pay rise.

Why doesn’t the Pakistani public react when fuel prices & salaries/perks of MNAs are increased? Why are there no long marches to pressurize the government to reduce government expenditure?

It’s because we are still afraid of loosing the status-quo if we come out on streets. Time is coming when people have nothing (left) to loose and then they will march the streets to burn at sight.
