Is housework really a wife’s responsibility?

There is not a single ayah in the Quran nor a single hadith that say that cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, clothes and cleaning the house is a woman’s (mother,sister daughter) or a wife’s job.

When religion is mixed with tradition and stuff is copied from other religions to put the woman down, she is actually expected to do all these things. And if for some reason one of these chores is not completed the husband actually gets angry!

Even if everything is completed, perfection is expected! How many times have wives heard this, “there is too much salt in this” or “this does not taste good.”

Dear Mr Husband,

Get yourself professional help as soon as possible. Islam does not ask a woman to do all these things so do not expect these of her. If she does do them, then consider it a huge, huge favor.

My view is that women should be treated like human beings and given the rights that Islam (not society) gives them. I don’t know why you have a problem with that.
