Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

Inheritance

There is an amazing amount of ignorance concerning inheritance. People say that because a girl receives half that her brothers receive, males are more important and it is unfair to girls. Really?

When a girl gets married and even if she is wealthy, her husband still has to spend on her. He has to provide for all her comforts and needs. This is her right. He cannot take her money without her permission but she can take his. Similar is the case with working women. A working muslim woman can choose to spend all her money on herself. She does not even have to spend her money on her children. That is the husband’s responsibility.

So now, who is it unfair to?

“He cannot take her money, but she can take his.” This is the funniest thing I’ve heard. In a society where the man is lord and master, how can the wife refuse to give him her money? Please wake up, Mr. Yusha, in an Islamic society, a woman has practically no rights, even though Islam may have given her many rights (which were revolutionary for the seventh century). But today, even though Christianity and Judaism did not give the same rights to women as Islam did, if a man divorces his wife in the West, he has to give her half his property as well as alimony. Can this happen in a Muslim country?

The problem in this country is that when someone raises his voice to speak the truth, he’s either told to shut up or wake up.

    • no it cannot. But is this a good idea? This is one reason for the extremely high divorce rate in the West.
