I have read about such cases in Europe also. Not long ago, a couple in Germany went to a sex specialist to find out why no children were being born to them. The doctors found that the wife was a virgin, and both husband and wife did not know anything about sex. The books on sex I read long ago (including "Everything you always wanted to know about sex, but were afraid to ask") also mentioned cases of impotent men and their wives (who apparently thought babies were delivered by storks). In Pakistan, talking about sex (by women particularly) is taboo, so if the husband is impotent, the poor wife can't talk to anyone about her problem. A
bride in the rural areas hears about sex for the first time from one or two of her married girl friends (usually a few minutes before she goes to the house of the groom). In cities, of course, with books and TV being widely available, girls know quite a lot about sex but they still have to be explained the finer points. Right upto the nineteen eightys I used to hear about brides fainting when told how babies are produced!
