Hordes of Scourges
As if tide of terrorism and rising poverty were not enough, power and flour crisis have struck Pakistan with such ruthlessness, the life for many has come to a standstill.
Just today, Sher Khan, a resident of Swabi District, a very nice and mellow fellow, who works as a peon in my office, came to me dejected and asked for some loan. He asked for merely some hundreds rupees, because he wanted to buy flour for his children, who didn’t understand what the “bumper crop” was, and who “Chuadharies of Gujrat” and “Shaukat Aziz” were, and what exactly meant by “Enlightened Moderation.”
This is the story of almost every common Pakistan. We are striving hard to meet the ends. We just cannot for the life of us complete the chores of life. We are sacrificing our medicine, trips to doctors, curtailing meals, with bleeding hearts putting our children to relatively “cheaper” schools, and cursing the responsible silently.
Heavy prices of fuel have restricted access to better business amenities, and the supply of basic facilities like food, flour and water has been badly affected. Matters are equally precarious when it comes to other not-so-basic necessities.
Crisis come in the countries, and in Pakistan they are a norm, so why don’t government come up with some crisis management plan. Would it profit from the recent surge in crisis, and plan for future? Seems very much out of question.
