Hong Kong Sparkles
Hong Kong is a jewel of Asia. Its energy, its synergy of international and Chinese culture, its smells, its sights and its sounds are just awesome. It’s one of those paragon and rare examples of Asian countries, where press enjoys an un-precedented freedom. Hong Kong is not all about China, it stretches beyond it.
Hong Kong is an international buzzing city with a dual nature. It’s completely international, yet its fully Chinese. It is not only the part if China, but also the part of the world. A decade has been passed, since Hong Kong returned to China, and despite of all the apprehensions and negative impressions, Hong Kong still enjoys its vibrancy.
When the city got aligned with China, Hong Kongers welcomed it with blended feelings. Feelings, which were sweet as well as sour. They were joyous at the fresh start, but at the same time were apprehensive about their identity and open society. They were wary of authoritarian approach of Beijing, yet they were happy to be once again closer to their mainland.
Today, Hong Kong is in a great shape, but somewhere deep inside, residents of this Special Administrative Region (SAR) of People’s Republic of China, it faces an interlocking set of existential questions from which all its once and future challenges emanate. These tough questions are about identity and the future, which is more than ever so uncertain, yet full of promises.
But the hopes in Hong Kong are as high as ever. Their financial strength is booming at stratospheric levels. Due to China connection, their economic future is secure. Another good thing for Hong Kong is that China is not that closed and Iron-Curtained country anymore. China is opening its arms for the outside world pretty much rapidly, and its the new and sure emerging economic power of the world.
Hong Kong is all about energy and prosperity. Hong Kongers love the status quo in their political scenario, but they are un-stoppable when it comes to their financial acumen.
