Harming a long struggle
It is reported that the eight judges have taken oath by an executive order and are reappointed at their posts. Many have termed this step as a tactics to weaken lawyer’s movement. Analysts have said that it cannot be called as reinstatement of judiciary but rather is reappointment. Some weak links in the government are harming the institution of justice in Pakistan. It is unfortunate to mention that individuals in the government especially belonging from Pakistan’s people party have always felt lawyers movement an obstacle to tackle and have tried to find alternatives and formulas to resolve this issue one way or the other.
Pakistan Muslim League-N that had broken the coalition partnership with PPP few days back on restoration of judges’ issue has its apprehensions and suspicions. According to a member of PML-N if the judges have had to be restored by an executive order than why the rest 60 judges cannot be restored by the same simple executive order? Saying that all judges cannot be restored at the same time is nothing but a set of lame excuses.
The supporters of Lawyers’ movement have always considered lawyers’ movement not a personal movement but have supported it on the ground that judiciary is an important institution and pillar of state whose independence is a must to be respected. Atizaz Ahsan said he was very disappointed as some forces are working to harm and dismantle the lawyers’ long struggle. He added that by this step they have accepted the stance of November 3rd as legal.
