Haram money and its destructive effects
If a person takes haram money, it will not benefit him/her. Instead, it will take a horrible shape in the form of either disease or some other terrible problem. Money becomes haram through many ways. Cheating, fraud, money earned by selling something haram, taking interest, money earned after taking advantage of someone etc.
Let’s say a customer hands a cashier more money than he/she was supposed to, by mistake, and the cashier deliberately keeps the extra money, then this money will be haram. Even though the cashier might think that he has earned more money, this money will only result in destruction. Similar is the case if the cashier hands over more change to the customer and the customer does not let the cashier know.
The above is just one example of how people think that if they get money through any means, it will result in happiness and progress. People get money without caring about the means, and then wonder why they are inflicted with one tragedy after another.
Businesses are busy cheating customers through any means possible, mixing impurities with consumable products, and wonder why their business never does well. Others tell the price of a good after looking at the customer, over-pricing if the customer looks naive or rich. From the biggest to the smallest, businesses run by decieving customers and think that they have achieved something great. At the same time they are always busy wondering why they have an endless sea of problems.
Teenagers are busy selling haram things to their friends, people are busy starting their businesses with interest filled loans, shops love to decieve customers, store owners will mislead, policemen will eat from vendors without paying, people will get jobs without caring whether they are halal or not, and then everyone is busy wondering why muslims are in such a mess.

“taking interest.” You haven’t read newspapers recently, have you? Japan had the lowest rate of interest (sometimes even less than one and a half percent), yet the Japanese have suffered tremendously in the recent financial crisis. As far taking those other “haram” things (like eating pork, or drinking alcohol), although I’m myself against taking interest and eating or drinking such stuff, how do you explain that the whole non-Muslim world (even the Chinese) eat pork and drink alcohol, yet they are not only healthy but prosperous as well?

“Do you have any idea what alcohol has done to the non-muslim world? Please wait for my post on alcohol. ” Apparently you don’t know that certain wines, drunk in moderation, are beneficial for the heart. Just because certain people get drunk and are ruined, there is no reason to condemn something. I hope, Buddah Yusha, before writing your next post, you will research the subject properly.

I see you have Google adds on your website. I was also
trying to earn halal income with Google Adsense. …but after reading some info on a muslim brother’s website, who does not have adsense adds as he feels that we dont know where Google earns its profits.
In the past, i read Google has been sued for profiting from illegal websites. Also, it is possible that Google earns profits from porn site and other illegal scam sites run by criminals. So both Google and the criminals profit. I feel it is best to stay away from a haram company, though you may not participate in the haram.
You are still profiting from a company that earns some of its income from haram sources. I refer to the following website:
ummahfilms com / faqs
Just type in google search: ‘google profits from illegal websites and will see various haram sites which google profits from. If some trusted knowledgeable muslim can prove to me that it is not haram referring to the Quran and sunnah, i would gladly put back my adds on my blog and advertise some affiliate programs i have going.

Yusha:
many of your complaints about the West are correct to some degree. But I must point out the “the West” as you use it is sort of xenophobic, as you use the term to group together many disparate groups, some of which are as pious and anhedonic as you may be. There are many Christain, Jew, and Buddhist sects in the West that do not drink alcohol or cheat people or borrow large sums of money, except for a home, which is the only way most people can buy a home. Western money lending for homes and business is different than ancient abusive money lending, such as that was and still is practiced in hindu India. The money lending and interest charging aspect of capitalism is a way to create a kind of societal savings account which can be used by any responsible, serious individual or company to create buildings, homes, factories, roads, freeways, inventions of all types, and so on. material prosperity - comfort on planet earth - is only possible via capitalism and efficient means of production (Say’s Law).
But you are right to condemn over-materialism in the West. This is a problem that many good people in the West are fighting against. Some progress is being made.
Your condemnations are somewhat accurate, as I said, but what is needed more are your encouragements. Perhaps you can summon the correct inspritational spiritual words to help guide young people away from a life of too much materialism and too much crazy sex and drugs. f
Thank you
Rob

I think the problem is with the manner in which most of the us look at west. It is stereotypical, exactly as western media portrays Muslims as terrorists and good for nothin brutes.
One has to live in the west to appreciate the god points and the ones that made west progress @ of a century ahead of rest of the world. I agree with Yusha as he is blatant and sincere in his post but at times he gets way off the line.
I was their before and after 9/11 happend. I worked had professional (office) buddies, Gym buddies, monday night football buddies so on and so forth. I was in a red neck smallish town. Never once I was confronted by any one within my circle of friends, their friends, neighbourhood folks for being against US. Although there were scattered incidents of some drunk younge men bullying me or indians and sikhs even on a sat night but there were folks who interevend immediately and all of us were safe. Cops were never called and neither were required.
The point I want to make here is that there are only few black sheep in west like there are only few black sheep in Muslim world. I felt more hopeful, more safe, more alive when I was living in US. I dont know if i wanna go back since the world has changed so much. But I would say that each one of us are intertwined by Humanism. I see more of that in west! Its not the American people that act hedonistically and are bunch of antagonists. By and large the people are simple, caring, loving and much forgiving. I think anyone here who has lived some part of his adult life professionally working in US will endorse my narration.

to Kashif:
thank you for your comment to my comment. I will disgree with you on two points:
1) Western media does not portray all Muslims as terrorists and godd for nuthin brutes. The news media is especially cautious to avoid doing that, often issuing the notice that “not all Muslims are terrorists” This is true of both left and right leaning news and news commentary media.
In movies, if the movie or television drama is about Islamic terrorists, then those characters in the movie/drama are of course portrayed as terrorists and good for nuthin brutes. Usually those movies also show other Muslim characters who are not terrorists, and the average Muslim villager is rarely shown to be a terrorist, although sometimes some villagers may be shown as terrorist collaborators, but then this is the case (as far as I know) so such characterizations are not inncacurate. In the movie Syriana there were many sympathetic Muslim characters.
And may I point out that the Bengali movie “Escape from the Taliban” is not a Western media film, and issues a condemnation of Taliban. It is not just the West that is cognizant of Islamic terrorism. Basically, every population group that has been victimized by Islamic terrorism is aware of the phenomenon. Thai’s and Filipinos, for instance.
2) Western hedonism: the problem of Western hedonism is larger that you describe. I think that around 50% of the population of the USA now has at least one, but more likely 2-3 vices. And what’s worse is that when so many people have a vice, then the excuses and rationalizations and denials typical of those with a vice begin to become accepted as normal speech, and it becomes difficult to convice a person that his/her vice is self-destructive, as they will have half the population to point to as their supporters. Then, one’s opinion that vices are bad is simply declated a personal opinion or bias.
There is a neuroscientific explanation for this - as all the vices, including gambling, have been shown to markedly increase the levels of dopamine and/or serotonin in the brain, and these are the “feel good” neurotransmitters, then those with a vice find their center of consciousness shifted in a direction that is favorable to the vice. All thoughts and speech about the vice then issue forth from a position that is undoubtedly a biochemically induced bias. But because the bias is biochemically induced the person can’t know that they have this bias.
To conclude:
I want all Muslims to know that you have a lot in common with about 50% of the US population - as a group, you and they favor sobriety, peace, good relations with neighbors and co-workers, good health, good food, beautiful landscapes, and the innocence of a child. Just as Westerners know that all Muslims are not terrorists, I want Muslims to understand that not all Westerners or Americans are hedonists, but a lot to them are. Let us be accurate with our delineations.
Though 50% of Americans are hedonists, the solution for the hedonism is not beheading or some other kind of Sharia punishment. The solution is more education about vices. For instance, only recently since an obesity epidemic has been proclaimed in the USA are people once agian thinking of eating too much as a vice (gluttony) . But, still today the word gluttony is not in common usage. The words that identify certain behaviors as vices have fallen out of favor.
And when people have too much sex, or watch too much porn and engage in MB, they are said to have a “sexual compulsion” that is to be treated in a clinic. Their treatment may be a psychiatric drug and psychotherapy. And yet, from past ages there is plenty of literature, from all cultures, that explain how people get into sexual compulstion and how to get out of it - usually through a change to a spiritual world view, or re-embrace of one’s lapsed spiritual world-view, or meditation or prayer, or simply the embrace of the concept of dignity - that is to say, one is not a monkey and therefore one must not behave like a monkey.
The hedonists in the West - (who are liberals and Democrats) have even suggested - and this comes from university professors - that we should look to the Benobo chimp for advice on our sexual behaviors. I am not kidding.
Half of America is insane from their vices and they don’t know it. For instance, we are having an epidemic of tatoos. When I ask someone why they paid good money ($200-$2000) for those tatoos, they say they did it because they wanted to. Then I ask them why they wanted to. And they respond with something like because they thought it would look cool. And then I ask why they needed to look cool. This dialogue ends with the tattooed person feeling foolish and uncomfortable as they realize they don’t actually know why they got that tatoo. In fact, they are brainwashed.
Most of the hedonists don’t know what they are doing. They literally have the various hedonistic thoughts popping into their consciousness, like all thoughts, but then they don’t have the sense to question it. This is the problem. It is ignorance, and indifference to ignorance.
What many Americans and Westerners need from Muslims is for Muslims to simply say, “excuse me, but are you aware what grotesque hedonists you are? Do you realize that your neighborhoods would be safer from crime, you jails almost empty, and your rehab clinics out of business if you would look at your hedonistic behaviors, admit of them, try to understand them, and cut them back by 80%? ( I think asking for 100% cutback would be unrealistic)
And instead of suggesting that Allah wants Muslims to get rid of all those who sin, instead, roll your eyes at Western hedonism and just keep insisting that we are insane, or half insane. Because that is the truth, and speaking the truth will be most effective.
Cheers
