Good treatment of wife and kids: Is this not a part of Islam?

Tablighees come across as very nice people, and needless to say, they are very religious. However, when it comes to the treatment of family members, they are just like others. One thing I’d like to know is, where is Islam when it comes to the treatment of wife and kids. Is Islam only about dawah and salah. Does Islam not teach that wife and kids have to be treated like human beings, with dignity and respect. Where is this part of Islam. Why is this part of Islam never preached?

Whether people are religious or non-religious, treating family members like trash has become a hobby for men. From ordering their wife around as though she is a servant to showing kids authority, no one treats their wife and kids with dignity and respect.

A lot of Tablighees leave for a very long time, without a care in the world for their wives. It is as though the wife is not a human being, and her only purpose is to support them. Hazrat Umar (R.A.) opposed that anyone go for more than four months, but going for seven months to a year is common among these people. Do they know more than Hazrat Umar (R.A.)?

Hazrat Umar (R.A.) was one person who really knew about the good treatment of women. He was a giant of a man whose name alone would strike terror in the hearts of kings at his time, and yet he was very kind to women.

Once a person came to Hazrat Umar with the complaint of his wife, and as he approached the door, he heard Hazrat Umar’s wife giving him a piece of her mind. The man was astonished. After some time the man went to meet him and narrated how surprised he was. Hazrat Umar (R.A.) told him that she cleans my house, washes my clothes, cooks food, takes care of my kids etc so I should be nice to her. The man left without complaining about his own wife.

Another incident was when Hazrat Umar (R.A.) said something about mahr and a woman opposed him, and upon realizing his mistake, he immediately said that Umar is wrong and the woman is right. If this was a case with someone today, I’m sure the woman’s dead body would have been found the next day after a brutal gang rape. Also, can any woman dare to have a go at her husband who is in a position of authority, without ending up in the hospital?

It wasn’t without reason that Allah SWT raised Hazrat Umar (R.A.) to such great heights that Islam spread the most under his rule and until today people take his name with respect. Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) said “If there would have been a Nabi after me, it would be Umar (R.A.).”

@ Mr. Yusha: Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) said “If there would have been a Nabi after me, it would be Umar (R.A.).” I’d be grateful if you could tell me where exactly in the books of Imam Bukhari is this mentioned (Hadith No., Book Number, etc). Thanks.
