[...] Consider this. This government has done more for this country than all our previous leaders put together. How many of you can see that? The opposition has consistently, over the past 19 years (as government and opposition, in fact), neglected their own constituencies and responsibilities to spend their time engaged in verbal (and in some cases, physical) warfare, while the bloggers and media have egged them on. This is patriotism? Go to any country across the world – people in democratic countries understand the importance of letting a government get on with their job. Where they intervene is when their representatives are NOT doing their job. They get involved when it matters. Not ours: [...]

@ farid masood: That was a single incident along with the attack on GEO, but that's a separate story of how some people, contrary to government policy, got angry with the channel. All in all, all these private channels and candid talk shows are the loud proves of media freedom. Just take one program of GEO , "Hum Sub Umeed Say Hien". Can you seriously believe, any of the previous "True Democratic" governments would allow that?

I am not by any means defending this government. It has its fair share of misdeeds and blunders, but it has done some wonderful things and we should acknowledge them.

1- Freedom of Media
Kamran Khan show was banned

2- Balochistan Operation
I lived in Balouchistan for 18 months their is no such issue. It is just a plan to misguide media

3- Gawadar Port
China has repeatedly asked Pakistan to develop this area.

4- Cunning International Diplomacy
Yes agreed

5- Not Curtailing the Defense budget
Curtailing pension of Public services and utilizing that fund to pay post-job payments to armed forces.

Here's some some I can think of:

1. Devolution of Power, which led to improvements in individual cities (Karachi being a major case in point: we may actually have clean and plentiful water in a couple of years. Woohoo!)

2. Building the infrastructure

3. Reviving the Economy and repaying our National Debt

4. Providing incentives and opportunities for entrepreneurship in ALL industries (especially communications, part of which led to the Freedom of the Press)

5. Peace with India

6. Strengthening ties with China

7. Attracting foreign investment

8. Attracting expatriate ForEx into Pakistan instead of out of it

9. The attempt (I say attempt, because it was not successful) to bring fresh blood into politics - neither of our previous pillagers even thought of this

10. Land Reforms

11. Tax Reforms

12. Bureaucracy Reforms (including automating and improving services like NADRA and PakPost - I'm not saying these are perfect, but this is a start. They've already been languishing at the bottom for years now, and there's nowhere to go but up)

13. Police Reforms (notably the Capital Police in Islamabad. I hear its a miracle reform)

14. Accountability. As much as this is a maligned word, and whatever one may think of the current situation with the judiciary, the fact that a reference may be brought against the CJ is a statement to our people: we will be held accountable for our actions, no matter what position we may hold. Read my blog for my views on this).

15. Industrial Reforms, including Banking and Telecommunications - we got Broadband because of Shaukat Aziz, not our previous 'Leaders'

How's that? People like to complain because they have short memories. They've forgotten everything we didn't have when the pillagers were in power.
