Factors culpable for Pervez Musharraf’s ouster

One can trace back many drawbacks in Musharraf’s nine year rule that culminated in reduction of his popularity and stardom. But factors and individuals that accelerated the velocity to ouster him as President of Pakistan were the horrendous events of year 2007 precisely. In the midst of several episodes, the lawyer’s movement with Chaudary Atizaz Ahsan, dismissal of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudary and promulgation of the constitution were prominent happenings demolishing this man’s rule.

The role played by electronic media also mounted pressure on General Musharaff and he himself who had given freedom to this industry had to ban them. Pervez Musharraf’s lack of trust in Pakistan and valuing more his foreign friend’s especially United States and Britain was another factor for his fall. After resigning from the post of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Kiyani also simultaneously withdrew his support and the army showed its neutrality in the politics of Pakistan. This stance not only handicapped Musharraf but also helped military regain its lost respect and grace.

The last but not the least important ingredient that threw Musharrafon the ground was the elected coalition parties’ commitment. Though one can argue that this commitment was based on self motivated interests from the past (Nawaz Sharif who waited nine long years to see this day) but still this was the first occasion in history of Pakistan when political parties showed and proved adherence.
