Elusive Dream
The war machines of United States including its celebrated media is largely responsible for the negative image of West in the Islamic world. Majority of Muslims regard the US citizens as drug abusers, child abusers, winos, drunks, rapers, orgy-mongers, gamblers and aggressors.
If you switch on CNN or Fox News, you come to see the video clips or pictures of Paris Hilton engaged in some new scandal, or you see Dixie Chicks or Britney Spears or creature of same kind in any sexy trouble. If you don’t see that you see US troops marching down the streets of Baghdad, or you see NATO forces bombing the Afghan areas. Then you see the legendry foolish grin of President Bush.
Did you notice how I insulted President Bush of United States without any second thoughts in one breath, while I don’t even think about blasting my own President Musharraf in the same words? The truth is that I am not afraid of Bush, because I know that he wont mind it and understands the freedom of speech, whereas my basic rights are suspended in my own country. There is no constitution to save my civil liberty, and there are no judges to provide me justice. I don’t really look forward to the political parties of either side, as they are too fragile, compromised and full of vested interests.
I don’t either have any interest in the upcoming elections of January 2008. Why should I bother about it? I would have considered them had I got option of casting my precious vote. In my constituency, all the candidates are either thugs, or they are smugglers or some other kind of thug. In my area, every party has got its representation. I don’t like PML-Quisling, but the opponents of their lota are just other lotas. There is no difference between any of them. One is more crook than the other.
Nawaz Sharif and Benazir have done what politicians are supposed to do. They are going for the elections. Benazir is contesting it to get Kursi, no matter how, and Nawaz Sharif to save his party. Though only time will tell that whether his decision was right or wrong, but one objective thing is that it was imperative for him to go to elections when only handful of them were boycotting them, and Sharif’s know from their experience of 8 or so years that dictator-in-charge doesnt give much damn to anyone boycotting or contesting the elections. Only shock-receivers are the Chaudharies of Gujrat, whose dream of making Pervez Elahi, the next prime minister of Pakistan has become more elusive now.
