Dubai International City flooded with sewage

International City Dubai is a country themed architecture of residences, businesses, and tourist attractions. Developed by Nakheel, International City comprise of 6 key areas, including The Central District, Dubai Design Centre, The Dragon Mart, The Residential District, Lakes District and the Forbidden City. International City dwellers are usually expats who find old Dubai pretty congested and their work/activity concentration is around Emirates Road.

While International City does have splendid exterior, all is not well inside. International City currently has approximately 60,000 residents but the facilities are inadequate and issues like water, drainage, security are always coming up.

According to Gulf News, sewage has flooded an International City residential area for two weeks in a row.

International City Sewage

An entire car park, roads and pavements are now submerged under the stinking sewage, which is still bubbling up from the drains. The sewage is now just a metre from the entrances of some residential buildings in England cluster, near one of the main roads. The car park is also flooded with the sewage. Motorists have no choice but to drive through the pools and around the hazard caused by tankers that are working to pump out the water.

The unbearable smell in the heat of summer is attracting many flies, particularly as most of the flood is still static over the sandy areas next to buildings.

International City’s on-site sewage treatment plant is located on the opposite edge of England and Russia clusters. The plant has been undergoing expansion work since the end of last year.

This is not the first spill to plague the area. The weekend of June 20 saw a large spill, which forced motorists off the road. The spill was preceded by a smaller flood on the weekend of June 6. Residents had previously complained about the smell of sewage on one of the main roads as far back as May.

The way they’re expanding, U.A.E. (particularly Dubai) will be just like Pakistan: water shortages, load-shedding, crimes like mobile snatching, etc.
