Danger of food shortage
All over the world, food prices are going through the roof. Pretty soon, we may see food riots breaking out in the poorer countries. There are various reasons for the food shortage, the most obvious being the use of land for growing plants to produce bio-diesel instead of food crops. Unfortunately, food and energy prices have both spiraled just when the poor people in India and China were finally earning enough to buy motorcycles, cars and meat.
Before men turn into cannibals and start eating each other (something which has happened in the past), we should try to cut down on consumption of both food and fuel. This is easier said than done. The biggest polluters are the Americans and the rich Arab states. They should change their habits and limit their use of fuel.
But with people like Mr. Bush insisting that there is no such thing as global warming, it is doubtful that fuel consumption will be curtailed. Only a miracle can save the planet.
