Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

Crisis Kleptocracy

We thrive on aid. We prosper on donations. We survive through debts. Our exports are meager, and our domestic production is shameful all right. If once in a while, we have something bumper, we take it for granted that this would be the year of bumper crises.

We are propped up by the aid and by the donations. Why is it that we never seem to get out of the vicious cycle of crisis after crisis? One ends hardly, while the other crisis engulfs the nation. Our crisis-ridden society has become accustomed to this roughshod saga of instability and un-certainty. We have now become habitual of suffering through numerous kinds of crisis simultaneously.

At one side we are weeping for flour, and on the other we don’t have money to buy medicines and other households. We are flabbergasted at the national politics, and we are dumbstruck over the wave of terrorism in the country. We are numb over the election shenanigans, and we are hurt over the external threats. We don’t have electricity and we don’t have running water. We don’t have proper roads, and we don’t have ordered sewerage.

We don’t have our basic rights, and we don’t have justice for us. We don’t have the muscle to protest, and we don’t have resources to register our agony. On the lighter side of the things, we are appalled at the crisis in the Sports at the national level. Our cricket team is at the lowest ebb, while hockey team is suffering one of the most ignominious defeats in the history. We have lost the rankings in Squash, and we don’t have any other sports to play.

In the land of crisis, there are some 16 crore crisis and increasing by the hour.
