General (Retd) Hamid Gul has been remained a central figure in the political scenario of Pakistan for quite a long time. Being ISI chief, he played a role of king maker and kind breaker, and was the person behind the formation of Islami Jamhuri Itehad (IJI) against People’s Party. He also played a role in the American-sponsored war in Afghanistan against Russia.

He was also the ISI chief during the tenure of Benazir, and he was also said to be a main figure in toppling her reign. He is normally considered a conservative general, though many don’t really believe that. His daughter Uzma Gul, who was behind the famous WARAN bus service in Rawalpindi, doesn’t look like the daughter of an Islamic conservative, and Hamid Gul’s various measures also support the image which is purported by Benazir.

In her spree of fully exploiting the Karsaz bomb blasts Benazir is putting forth names of may-be-responsible like hell, and she has even named Ijaz-ul-Haq and Hamid Gul. Ijaz-ul-Haq is so stunned, that he hasn’t been able to even deny it properly, while Hamid Gul has done a press conference and surprisingly in a very meek tone, rejected the allegations. As he is very shrewd and has sensed that US is totally behind Benazir and she has got the full might of West behind her, and she is the next PM of Pakistan and right now she has also got the sympathy factor, he is playing it cool.

Its certainly preposterous and absurd to even think that Hamid Gul could be behind the terrorists attack, the interesting thing was the reaction of Hamid Gul, which was timid and very defensive. He said that he believed that PPPP truly represents the alternative of Quaid-e-Azam, and is the biggest party of Pakistan, and Benazir shouldn’t do that, and blah blah blah.

If Hamid Gul is afraid of Benazir, then things are really serious, and Chaudharies of Gujrat should get ready for the worse.
