Asif Zardari’s Not For Prime Minister
Zardari has held his first press conference in Islamabad, and he has handled it pretty well. The best thing about this press conference was his announcement that he is not the candidate for the Prime Minister ship, which must be a very hard decision for him and a pretty harder pill to swallow.
It’s also a good effort on part of him to save PPP from disintegration, as PPP workers do not like him much, and they have given vote to PPP on the name of Benazir Bhutto, and they want PPP to be successful, and that is what PPP leaders have realized and after much internal rifts, they have at last succeeded in convincing Zardari to step down from this position of his.
Now, either Yousuf Raza Gilani is the candidate for PM, or it could Makhdoom Amin Fahim, and the chances are more brighter for Makhdoom Amin Fahim, as he was always in line behind Benazir Bhutto, and he is from Sindh, and it would prudent for Pakistan to have a non-Punjabi Prime Minister this time.

Sir, you’re sadly mistaken. The Americans want him to be prime minister and Musharraf to be president. You and I have no choice in this matter. Zardari will throw all principles to the wind and make alliances with Q-league and MQM to be the prime minister. He’s not at all different from his late wife and ZAB, who were both power-hungry. And he has that Swiss case hanging over his head!
