Established in April 1983, the International Republican Institute (IRI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to advancing freedom and democracy worldwide by developing political parties, civic institutions, open elections, good governance and the rule of law. For 25 years, IRI has been helping to spread democracy through trainings by volunteer experts from all over the world on political party and candidate development, good governance practices, civil society development, civic education, women’s and youth leadership development, electoral reform and election monitoring, and political expression in closed societies.

The International Republican Institute (IRI) today released its survey of Pakistan public opinion. The poll was conducted June 1-15, 2008. The randomly selected sample consists of 3,484 adult men and women from 223 rural and 127 urban locations in 50 districts in all four provinces of Pakistan. The margin of error for the national sample will not exceed + 1.66 percent in 19 out of 20 cases.

According to this survey, Eighty-three per cent of Pakistanis want President Pervez Musharraf to be removed and judges to be restored. Musharraf’s job approval ratings had dropped to 11 per cent. Only three per cent of people surveyed thought he was the best person to handle Pakistan’s problems.
